Revit to Rhino

Take Revit geometry into Rhino, sorted by category.

Group the Revit categories, families or types you need into a card and send it to the open Rhino model. No DWG or FBX export to set up and re-import.

How it works

Three steps, no intermediate file.

  1. Step 1

    Connect both programs

Install PAULGA Studio, sign in, and connect the Revit and Rhino plugins from inside the app. Keep both programs open on the same Windows PC.

  2. Step 2

    Group categories into a card

In PAULGA Studio, put the Revit categories, families or types you want into one card. The card follows the live model, so it always sends the current elements.

  3. Step 3

    Send it to Rhino

Open the card's send menu and pick your Rhino model. Optionally choose one Rhino layer to put everything on.

What arrives in Rhino

What you get on the Rhino side.

The send copies geometry once. Here is exactly what the Rhino model receives.

  • Categories become layers

Elements land on layers named after their Revit category, under a PAULGA Send Mode parent layer. If you pick a destination layer, everything goes there instead.

  • Elements keep their names

Each Rhino object is named after the Revit element it came from, so you can still tell a wall from a column.

  • Families become blocks

Repeated family instances arrive as Rhino blocks, so shared geometry is stored once.

  • Polysurfaces where possible

Element geometry is rebuilt as polysurfaces where Rhino can, and kept as mesh where it cannot.

Know the limits

  • Geometry is meshed on export, so polysurfaces are made of flat faces rather than smooth NURBS.
  • Revit parameters, types and hosting relationships do not come across as editable Rhino data.
  • It is a one-way copy, not a live link. Sending again imports a fresh copy rather than updating the last one.

FAQ

Revit to Rhino, answered.

Anything else? Ask the guide chat in the corner.

Can I send only some categories?

Yes. A card holds exactly the categories, families or types you put in it, so you can send just the structure, just the facade, or one family.

Will the Revit data come with it?

No. You get geometry, layers named by category and object names from the Revit elements. Parameters and types stay in Revit.

Do Revit and Rhino need to be open at the same time?

Yes. Both programs run on the same Windows PC and connect to PAULGA Studio through its plugins. The app reads the card's objects from Revit and writes them into the open Rhino model.

Does sending between programs cost anything?

PAULGA Studio is free to download from the Microsoft Store or as an installer. Credits are only for AI image and video generation.
